What is Rock the Block?
Rock the Block is an engaging, family-oriented community celebration. This is the Rockwood neighborhood’s annual 2-day event hosted by social service organizations, government agencies, schools, citizens and private businesses on the Plaza del Sol, in the heart of Rockwood!
Rock the Block shines a much-needed spotlight on this vibrant and diverse neighborhood for one jam-packed weekend! This is not your average festival! Rock the Block enables neighborhood residents to enjoy safe family fun, nutritious food, enroll in needed services, and change their environment for the better all in one space.
Rock the Block provides a forum for approximately 2,500 community members to connect to youth activities and resource providers to thrive on an ongoing basis. Rock the Block 2015’s overarching theme is literacy. Our goal is to send kids into summer with a renewed interest in reading and writing. Each child attending will receive free books, miscellaneous swag and access to positive activities. Multnomah County’s Rockwood Library will host the Reading Together tent giving kids access to exciting activities, multilingual reading circles and year-round literacy resources.
